Heimo Thomas
Heimo Thomas has more than 30 years of experience in the
logistics industry. He has worked for consumer products corporations,
retailers and service providers. As member of the mail business
divisional board he was part of the team which transformed
Deutsche Post from a government department to a top player
in the global logistic market.
The reunification of Germany in 1989 and a necessary quantum
leap in productivity and service level were the major reasons
to modernize the German mail network. Having responsibility
for mail operations throughout the nineties, Heimo implemented
a new postal code system to support a planned state of the
art logistic operations system.
He was the project leader of “Brief 2000”: the
implementation of 83 green field mail centers with modular
layouts, standardized processes, and automated mail processing
and materials handling. The technological change was aligned
with adequate organizational and management transformations.
A user oriented PPS-system (Production Planning and Scheduling)
resulted in further productivity increases.
As a result of Heimo’s work the International Mail
Center at Frankfurt airport was the first international gateway
to be awarded a Certificate of excellence by the International
Post Corporation (IPC).
Since 2002 his practical experience is valued by many posts
for which he works as a senior advisor and consultant.
Core Competencies:
His core competencies are the alignment of infrastructural
technology projects with the surrounding transformation plans
of the business. His comprehensive view of the various components
of modern operations systems (network, sorting strategy and
plants, automation, containerization and identification, transportation,
delivery and sequencing) helps to design sustainable programs.
Beyond the content of superior projects he highlights the
impact of excellent and professional project management.
